Warriors Readying to Take The Field…LB’s 2016

Some of the best linebackers in the class of 2016 have yet to commit and this bodes well for many universities who may be looking for a certain type of player.  With the evolution of the linebacker position, most high school players fit one of three categories.  Athlete, hitter/run-stopper, and student are the three types.  Although there are plenty of players across the country that can fit into these categories, here are some of the best you may or may not have seen.

The Athlete

Easily the most desirable of the flock is the athlete.  Not only can they step up and stop the run, but they can also be placed in coverage against running backs and receivers of average to above average speed.  Their intangibles include great speed and the the quickness that most 4 star running backs possess.  Great jumping ability is also a measurable that is overlooked, but many in this category have it.  Here are five to keep an eye on.

The Hitters/Run-stoppers

These are usually the bigger backers and their obvious standout feature is the ability to bring the offense’s run game to a complete halt.  A mainstay in short yardage and goaline defenses, these guys are hardly ever contained by one blocker. Its not a big surprise that some of these guys end up at the defensive end position as a result of their contribution of speed and size.  Five of the best..

The Students-

Smart linebackers are not a new thing. These guys study their x’s and o’s almost as much as the quarterbacks.  They understand the flow of the game from both sides of the ball and because of this are rarely caught out of position.  Usually made captains because of their work ethic and dedication to the team, these players are very coachable and top the lists with scouts.  These five rank high on all national recruiting lists.
