The Return Of The “Scatback “

Any of us who have watched college football in the last 10 years have realized the value of having an excellent all purpose back. One who can return kicks, be placed in the backfield, and also line up in the slot position.  A re-emergence of the “Scatback” is taking place. College teams who are known for using the smaller, quicker backs are Oregon, Florida, and a host of SEC and PAC 10 teams. These schools are synonymous with speed and quickness at the running back and “scatback” positions. Usually 5’8 to 5’10 with 4.4 or faster 40 yard dash times, these athletes can provide a new wrinkle to offenses. Familiar names include Trindon Holiday, Tavon Austin, and Warrick Dunn.  High school’s classes of 2016 and 2017 will both showcase some pretty good talent at the position during 7 on 7 camps this summer.  Scouts can definitely make room on their recruiting list for these names…
